Strings · Australian Christian Orchestra

For Christian violinists in Sydney looking for somewhere their playing and their faith belong together.

Your place in the strings

The violin at AChA

Violins are the largest section of the Australian Christian Orchestra, split into firsts and seconds. You'll carry melody lines, inner harmonies, and the soaring countermelodies that define sacred orchestral writing — from Bach and Vivaldi through to film-scale arrangements of hymns and worship.

Auditioning as a violinist

We look for Grade 7+ AMEB (or equivalent) violinists. A short video of you playing — a movement of a concerto, a study, or a hymn arrangement — is enough to start. Comfortable position-work and sight-reading help, but heart and reliability matter as much as technique.

Violinist questions

Do I need to be a professional violinist to join?

No. We have conservatorium-trained players and serious amateurs side by side. Grade 7+ AMEB is the guide, not a hard wall — if you can hold your own in a section, we want to hear you.

First or second violin — how is it decided?

Natalia and the section leaders place you after your trial rehearsal, based on the repertoire and the balance of the section that season. Both parts are musically rewarding.
