The clarinet at AChA
Clarinets give the orchestra warmth and agility — from velvet low chalumeau lines to bright runs over the top of a hymn. In the Australian Christian Orchestra clarinettists are central to the woodwind blend.
Auditioning as a clarinettist
Grade 7+ AMEB (or equivalent). Send a short video — a study, a movement, or a worship arrangement. Bass clarinet doublers, please say so.
Clarinettist questions
B-flat and A clarinet — do I need both?
B-flat is the common requirement. A-clarinet parts appear in some repertoire but aren't essential to start.
Is there bass clarinet work?
Occasionally, in larger works. Doublers welcome.
