Strings · Australian Christian Orchestra
For Double bass players in Sydney — the foundation every orchestra is built on.
Your place in the strings
The double bass at AChA
The double bass is the floor of the whole orchestra. Bassists in the Australian Christian Orchestra set the harmonic foundation and the rhythmic pulse — the part everyone else locks onto. Capable bassists are always welcome.
Auditioning as a double bassist
Grade 7+ AMEB (or equivalent) is our guide. A short video is enough to begin. If you read bass clef confidently and keep steady time, you'll fit straight in.
Double Bassist questions
Do you have a bass I can borrow?
Members generally provide their own instrument, but get in touch — for an instrument as large as the bass we'll always talk through logistics.
Is amplification used?
In larger venues, sometimes. For most rehearsals and church-acoustic concerts it's purely acoustic.
