The double bass at AChA
The double bass is the floor of the whole orchestra. Bassists in the Australian Christian Orchestra set the harmonic foundation and the rhythmic pulse, the part everyone else locks onto. Capable bassists are always welcome.
- The commitment
- Monthly Thursday rehearsals, 7:00–9:15 pm. Concert preparation may include extra rehearsals.
- Where you'll meet
- UTS Building 5, 1 Quay Street, Haymarket.

Let's hear about you.
Start with the interest form. Grade 7+ AMEB (or equivalent) is our guide. The team will explain whether a video audition is needed. Confident bass-clef reading and steady time are useful strengths to share with the team.

Do you have a bass I can borrow?
Members generally provide their own instrument, but get in touch, for an instrument as large as the bass we'll always talk through logistics.
Is amplification used?
In larger venues, sometimes. For most rehearsals and church-acoustic concerts it's purely acoustic.
