The Vision

A choir that sounds like heaven.

The Christian Choir Sydney | Australian Christian Choir exists to recover what the Church has always known — that the human voice, lifted in unity, is one of the most powerful instruments God has given us. We sing classical sacred works, contemporary worship, choral arrangements, and gospel — all with the same artistic standard and the same heart.

Launched in September 2024 at St Philip's York Street, the AChC has grown into a vibrant fortnightly community of Catholics, Anglicans, Pentecostals, Orthodox, Baptists and more — singing as one body, no Sunday divisions in the room.

Most of our members have never sung in a choir like this before — where the room is warm, the music is real, and the people genuinely become family. That's the point.

Our DNA

Humility, beauty, presence.

Blend before brilliance

We're not building a choir of soloists. We're building a body — a sound where no one voice dominates, and every voice is essential.

Welcome at the door

Most choirs feel intimidating to new members. Ours doesn't. The Home Team meets every newcomer; section leaders sit beside you for your first rehearsal.

Spiritual formation

Every rehearsal opens with devotion — Scripture, brief reflection, prayer. We don't separate the music from the meaning. Worship is built in, not added on.

Cross-denominational unity

20+ traditions in one choir. No one is asked to leave their tradition at the door — only to leave secondary differences outside the rehearsal.

Real friendships

Choir nights aren't transactional. Members eat together, pray together, support each other through hard seasons. The music is the gathering point — community is the gift.

Excellence as worship

We rehearse like the audience matters. We perform like God is listening — because He is. Magnificence in detail is itself a witness.

Read the full set of AChA values, called HEMIOLAS — with their scriptural grounding and patristic commentary.

What We Sing

Sacred classics. Contemporary worship. Living tradition.

Across a season you'll sing centuries of the Church's musical inheritance — from medieval plainchant to Bach motets, Handel's Messiah to modern Hillsong arrangements scored for full SATB.

Sacred Classics

Bach motets, Handel's Messiah choruses, Fauré's Requiem, Mozart, Brahms — the great choral tradition handed down from the Church for centuries.

Contemporary Worship

Full-choir arrangements of modern worship songs. Hillsong, Bethel, Elevation — re-scored so a congregation can sing along while the choir lifts the line.

Gospel & Spirituals

African-American gospel tradition. Spirituals. Rhythmic, vocally rich, deeply rooted in suffering and resurrection.

Christmas & Easter Repertoire

Two major concert seasons each year, with repertoire shaped around the great feasts of the Christian year.

Commissioned New Works

We commission new Australian Christian choral works — slowly building a repertoire of contemporary sacred music for Australia.
