Percussion · Australian Christian Orchestra

For Christian percussionists in Sydney — timpani, mallets, and the colour behind the orchestra.

Your place in the percussion

The percussion at AChA

Percussion ranges from the thunder of timpani under a final chorale to the shimmer of a suspended cymbal or the precision of mallet work. In the Australian Christian Orchestra percussionists bring the drama and the detail to our sacred and concert repertoire.

Auditioning as a percussionist

Grade 7+ AMEB (or equivalent) across timpani and tuned/untuned percussion is our guide. A short video showing your range helps. Timpanists especially welcome.

Percussionist questions

Do you provide the instruments?

Larger percussion (timpani, mallet instruments) is provided for rehearsals and concerts where possible — talk to us about specifics.

Do I need to read tuned-percussion parts?

For mallet work, yes. Timpani and auxiliary parts vary in demand by repertoire.
