About AChA

What is Australian Christian Arts? A simple, full answer.

Australian Christian Arts (AChA) is Sydney's premier Christian arts organisation. Founded in 2022, we run a symphony orchestra, choir, youth orchestra, and youth choir, uniting Christians from 20+ denominations through music, beauty, and shared worship. We are an ACNC-registered charity (ABN 31 644 225 758), governed transparently by a board of directors.

The five programs

We run five programs in 2026: the Australian Christian Orchestra (Grade 7+ AMEB musicians, monthly rehearsals at Scots Church Sydney), the Australian Christian Choir (fortnightly rehearsals at Scots Church), the Australian Christian Youth Orchestra (ages 13–19, launching May 2026), the Australian Christian Youth Choir (ages 13–19, launching May 2026), and Australian Christian Productions (events and concert production).

Why we exist

The Christian church in Australia has a rich artistic tradition spanning two thousand years — composers like Bach, Tallis, Mendelssohn; choral traditions from the Eastern Orthodox to the Salvation Army; visual art, theatre, dance. But in 21st-century Australian Christianity, that tradition has narrowed sharply. AChA exists to reclaim it — to give Christian musicians a place where their gift isn't "too much" and their faith isn't separate from their art.

What makes us different

We are intentionally ecumenical. Our orchestra and choir include Anglicans, Catholics, Greek and Russian Orthodox, Baptists, Pentecostals, Lutherans, Presbyterians, and many more. We don't ask members to leave their tradition — we ask them to bring it. The result is a community where 20+ Christian denominations rehearse, perform, and worship side by side, united by the Nicene Creed and a love of the arts.

Where we rehearse and perform

All core rehearsals happen at Scots Church Sydney, 44 Margaret Street, Sydney CBD — Thursday evenings, 7:15–9:15 PM. We've performed at Scots Church, St Barnabas Broadway, St Philip's York Street, the Chatswood Concourse (our first 1,000-seat hall), the Salvation Army Congress Hall (for our 800-person Messiah Concert in November 2024), and at the Australian Christian Churches National Conference on the Gold Coast (May 2025, 2,500 people).

The vision

Our 2027 goal is to perform at the Sydney Opera House. Between now and then, we're building a community of professional-standard Christian musicians, growing youth pipelines that guarantee adult pathways, and connecting concert audiences with local churches through our Doorway discipleship program.

How to engage

If you're a musician interested in joining the Orchestra or Choir, visit our membership page. If you'd like to attend a concert, see upcoming concerts. If you're looking for a Christian community in Sydney, the Doorway program can help.
